In-Depth Entry
On Wednesday, I finally opened up the latest song project again and applied some brute force tactics to the lyrics.
I'd put it off for too many days. Whenever I thought about working on the song my brain just said, "Nope! Move along! Nothing to see, here!"
I suppose it helps that I still have Minecraft to keep me busy when a song is telling me to get lost.
I've worked on enough songs to know that if I just show up and put the time in, I'll eventually get something. But when I'm trying to come up with something very specific regarding lyrics I usually run into a brick wall. It's one of my long-term projects for myself with regards to songwriting.
Another complicating factor is that I can be stubborn. Even though I had a melody established in some of the instruments I somehow got it into my head that I had to come up with a completely different melody for the vocals. It took more time than I'd care to admit to get over myself and just run with what I alread had.
Once I did, however, it didn't take long to get something that worked.
At this point, I can't tell if the lyrics are any good, but I can tell that they work.
As a reminder, I began working on the song on 08 August. I finished it in the wee hours of 22 August. Basically two weeks, when it's often possible to get that work done in a couple of days.
That is, if I'm not tossed away from the task.
And that's something I'm looking to resolve, going forward.
Since finishing this song, I've managed to put two more together. Specifically, since they don't have lyrics it was an easier job to accomplish. I'm hoping to get a few more lyric-free songs together to try and rebuild my momentum and confidence.
